March, 2015 - Revd Tim Britton

Our Vicar of 13 years Tim Britton retired as Priest in Charge of Hunningham, Weston and Wappenbury in March and will be very much missed.  Tim and his wife Frances are moving to Cromer in Norfolk

Tim has been a very popular figure as head of the Feldon Group and since the retirement two years ago of Diane Patterson we have seen much more of him in Weston where he has always been kind, patient and helpful.   He also attended all our Parochial Church Council meetings and was unstinting with his good advice.

The Feldon Group gave Tim and Frances a rousing send off  on 7th March with a Lunch Party for 160 parishioners at Long Itchington Community Centre and Long Itchington Church was packed for his Farewell Service of Holy Communion on Sunday 8th March.  As a sign of our appreciation parishioners contributed a substantial amount for John Lewis and Gardening vouchers which will, we hope, be very useful in their new home.So what happens next?  The Church of England does not do smooth handovers and so we will enter an Interregnum which means that many services will be “Do it Yourself” and we will be inviting visiting Vicars for mainline services.  In Weston this means that 6.00pm Evensong on the second Sunday of each month will continue to be “lay led” and for the next couple of months we will be welcoming Revd Eric Johnson who will preside over our 11.00am Service on the third Sunday.

February, 2015 - New Church Gates

Many of you will have noticed the beautiful new oak gates at St Michael's.

These gates have been erected in memory of John Sharlot, a well known Farmer of Weston-under-Wetherley, and were donated by the Sharlot family.   John had spent his whole life in Weston and the plaque reads  "In loving memory of Anthony John Sharlot of Weston Fields Farm  28th February 1930 - 7th May 2014".  John was a member of the Parochial Church Council and was Treasurer for many years.   He was also on the original Committee for our Village Hall and Past Chairman of the Joint Parish Council for Weston, Hunningham, Wappenbury with Eathorpe and Offchurch.

December, 2014 - Christmas Crib Service

A full church, including many children from the area, attended  our Crib Service on Christmas Eve

January, 2014

A newly erected bench at St Michael's in memory of Sandy Bell, Veterinary Surgeon of Weston.  The inscription reads "Sit and take a moment to think..."  Already enjoyed by many walkers who stop to eat their sandwiches in the Churchyard.
